How the score works out in practice. Enter your own survey results above.

A typical survey

200 responses: 110 promoters, 50 passives, 40 detractors. Promoters: 110 ÷ 200 = 55% Detractors: 40 ÷ 200 = 20% NPS = 55 − 20 = 35

A negative score

100 responses: 20 promoters, 30 passives, 50 detractors. NPS = 20% − 50% = −30

Why passives still matter

100 responses: 40 promoters, 50 passives, 10 detractors gives an NPS of 30. Move 20 passives to promoters and it becomes 60 − 10 = 50, without losing a single detractor.

Questions, answered.

How is NPS calculated?
Take the percentage of promoters (scores of 9 or 10) and subtract the percentage of detractors (0 to 6). 50% promoters and 20% detractors is an NPS of 30.
What's the range?
From −100, when every customer is a detractor, to 100, when every customer is a promoter.
Do passives count?
They count toward the total number of responses, but not toward the score itself.
