About
Two engineers, one support inbox, and a roadmap that kept slipping.
unclench.ai is the tool we wished we'd had at our last job. This is how we ended up building it.
Where it started
We were hired to build features. We ended up answering the chat.
We were engineers at a SaaS company that sold to Shopify merchants. Our job was the product. But customer chats came in through Crisp, and a lot of them landed on us.
Most were questions we'd answered before, so we'd find the right docs page, paste the link and go back to the code. Sometimes the docs were wrong or silent, so we'd go and fix those too.
None of it was hard. It just never stopped. Every hour in the inbox came off the roadmap, and features we'd promised kept shipping late.
What we noticed
Most of those chats didn't need us. They needed our docs.
The answer was usually already written down. The customer just couldn't find it, or didn't want to look. We were a very expensive search box.
The chats that did need us were different: a real bug, a frustrated customer, someone close to buying. Those deserved our full attention, and got less of it because of everything else.
What we built
An AI teammate that answers from your docs and knows when to get you.
unclench.ai answers customers and prospects from your website, docs and help center, at any hour. When your docs don't cover a question, it says so instead of guessing, and adds the question to a list for you to answer once.
When someone needs a person, it flags the chat and you take over in the same conversation. The customer never repeats themselves.
We built it for founders who took on support themselves because it was the right call early on, and now can't get back to building. It's the trap we were in, with fewer people to share it.
What we believe
Three rules we built it on.
- An honest “I don't know” beats a confident guess
- One invented refund policy does more damage than a hundred flagged chats. When your docs don't cover it, the agent says so.
- Every missed question should fix your docs
- Answer it once, from the chat, and the next person who asks gets that answer without you.
- A busy month shouldn't cost you more
- One flat monthly price. No per-resolution fees, so more customers asking questions is only ever good news.
Close the chat tab. Get back to building.
About three minutes to set up. Paste one tag, and the questions your docs already answer stop landing on you.
