Import from Intercom
Switching from Intercom? Bring your customers and their conversation history with you, so your team has the context from day one. Owners and admins can import.
What comes over
- Contacts with an email or a phone number: name, email, phone, location and custom attributes. Someone who has already chatted with you here keeps what they told your widget; Intercom only fills in what’s missing.
- Conversations from the last 2 to 5 years (you choose): what the customer wrote, your team’s replies, Fin’s replies, and internal notes, with their original dates. Replies from someone on your team here are signed by them; anyone else keeps their Intercom name.
- Images and attachments, as pictures and links. They stay hosted by Intercom.
- Each conversation’s Intercom tags and rating (1 to 5, with any comment).
Assignments, status changes and other Intercom events aren’t imported. Intercom shares at most the latest 500 messages of any one conversation, and tickets aren’t included.
Import
Create an Intercom app
In Intercom, open the Developer Hub and create a new app. Any name works.
Check its permissions
Under Configure → Authentication, make sure the app has Read and list users and companies and Read conversations.
Copy the access token
On the same page, copy the Access token. Not the Client ID or Client secret.
Start the import
In unclench.ai, open Settings → Import, paste the token, choose how far back to go and select Start import.
The import runs in the background, contacts first and then conversations, and you can leave the page while it works. A large Intercom account takes a while; the page shows how far it’s got. Stop import keeps everything brought over so far.
The token is only used for the import and is deleted when it finishes.
Where it shows up
Imported conversations are in Conversations under Resolved and All, marked From Intercom. They’re history: you can read them and add internal notes, but not reply in them. Imported customers are in Customers.
Nothing imported counts toward your plan’s messages, and it doesn’t change your overview or knowledge gaps.
Import again on the day you switch. Only conversations that are new or changed since the last import come over, and nothing is duplicated, so you can run both tools side by side until then.
